New works by Michael Kenna are on show in Italy. The exhibition at Galleria 13 in Reggio Emilia features images from the photographer’s project dedicated to Fukushima Prefecture in Japan.

The series highlights the natural beauty of Fukushima and its remarkable recovery following 2011’s catastrophic nuclear disaster.

Galleria 13 states: ‘It is difficult, if not impossible, to erase these images of Fukushima from our collective memory, and perhaps we should not even attempt to do so, because the many souls who were lost deserve to be remembered, always, and history cannot be changed. However, even as that terrible devastation is remembered, time has moved on, and Fukushima has demonstrated extraordinary resilience in the aftermath of the destruction.’
