The annual Photo Festival La Gacilly is underway, showcasing hundreds of large-format photographs in the streets, parks, gardens and alleys of the village of La Gacilly in Brittany, France.
The theme for 2026 is ‘A French Adventure’, marking 200 years since Nicéphore Niépce, one of the pioneers of photography, created his first images.

Monochrome highlights include works by Pierre Le Gall, a photographer who has been making images since the 1960s but remains under the radar. Working without a fixed plan or preconceived ideas, he captures fleeting, often playful, moment of everyday life. A philosophy teacher by profession, he has built an extensive body of black & white work over the decades.

More familiar names include Jane Evelyn Atwood, who has been documenting life in France since she moved to Paris from the USA in 1971; and Sebastião Salgado, who is honoured with an extensive retrospective exhibition.

There is also an exhibition dedicated to Félix Nadar, his brother Adrien Tournachon and son Paul Nadar; three trailblazing men who shaped photography in its early days and helped to establish it as an art form.
The festival runs until 4 October. Find out more at festivalphoto-lagacilly.com
