A monumental building dedicated to photography has opened its doors to the public. The Santos warehouse – a nine-storey building in Rotterdam that was built between 1901 and 1902 to store coffee from Brazil – is the new home of the Nederlands Fotomuseum and houses one of the largest museum collections of photography in the world. The museum presents work by leading Dutch photographers as well as emerging talents, spanning from the invention of photography around 1839 to the present day.

As well as regular exhibitions, there are open studio spaces, a darkroom, café and restaurant, as well as a library with the largest collection of photobooks in Europe.

The museum opens with two exhibitions, one of which is entitled Rotterdam in Focus and includes more than 300 photographs exploring the development of photography in the city over the last 180 years.
